lyrics
That night the wind howled like a wolf in pain
As it wailed through sheets of freezing rain
The waves charged forward to ravage the shore
Striking a terror like never before
As the morning broke and the storm winds depleted
The roar of the sea to a whisper retreated
And under the light of a pale grey sky
The debris the previous night left behind
The people who gathered that morn’ on the shore
The terrible bulk of the sea beast they saw
The circling gulls incessantly screeched
Vying to feast from the hulk on the beach
Was that a tusk or the shard of a rib?
A putrid foul carcass of monstrous squid?
Was it a gift from the sea or a curse?
Was it an omen of tidings much worse?
Could they pretend that it didn’t exist
The creature that swam out of legend and myth
Perhaps if they cleansed it with fire and flame
And never would speak of the damned thing again
With a grave sense of purpose all there resolved
Lay waste to the creature, it’s secrets untold
Enlightenment finds in our minds an obstruction
In terror and ignorance sees only destruction

This album is plain and simple a ritual, a beautiful and moody invocation of those ancient gods that so many of us have forsaken. It will take you by the hand and lead you off the beaten path, deeper into the woods than you might feel comfortable with. Hold on tight though, as it may leave you there. So immersive is the experience it may take you a while to find your way out, should you even wish too. A soundtrack for the connections I yearn, the wisdoms I crave. In other words, bloody great.
